Experience Enrichment Project- Motar and pestle

Rationale
It can be seen that a traditional mortar-and-pestle always requires hard hand-pounding. This is always an unpleasant action for most people, and sometimes it can be difficult or even impossible for people with health problems. Additionally, hard pounding of the mortar-and-pestle creates extremely unpleasant noise that can border on the unbearable (especially for metal or ceramic units), and can often cause messy spills of the ingredient whether solid or liquid. After observing my grandma use a traditional Indonesian right-angled pestle, the novel design allows a user to simply press down on the pestle and roll the pestle back and forth inside the mortar for it to sufficiently break down the raw ingredients into fine particles without hard pounding, or the associated noise and splashing.
The right-angled pestle is shaped to be held like a phone.  Its curvilinear form, and reflective white surface makes aesthetically pleasing the hold and use. The rolling movement of the pestle is a relaxing and sensuous feeling, further enhanced by it pure snow white colour.
During research I also found pouring marinades and dressing from a normal motar and pestel can be difficult due to its weight and shape.  Made from white ceramic, the Vessel is lighter than most mortar and pestles.  The unique boat shaped allows for easier handling with narrow sides that fit into the curvature of the palm for better grip.  With a pouring edge groove that doubles as a pestle rest, directly transferring your finished marinades and sauces to your dish is eased.
Its curvilinear form and usual design makes it becomes a sculptural piece and a topic of conversation.

  1. Hey Christine, i really like your mortal and pestle...it's great that you're inspired indonesian mortal and pestle and yet you bring your own innovative shape into the design. I really like that you chose white as the colour because it really makes your product even looks opulence. welldone!

  2. mabe for improvement, you ca make the size of the mortal a bit wider and more concave a little bit? so that it can fits the more ingredients and if there is sauce, it's easier to grid without it leaking everywhere :)

  3. I really like this product, shape and form really steps outside the box for a mortal and pestle. The ceramic white is a great choice as it looks very suitable for its environment. Improvements are hard on a product like this maybe a slightly wider or more of an elipse shape could allow for more ingredients and more of a circular motion when crushing.

  4. This is a really good improvement on the mortar and pestle. The lines and shape are really appealing conveying a sense of harmony and a pleasant relaxing experience. Maybe an interesting ceramic finish with colours could emphasize these characteristics and make it even more appealing.

  5. Your design is aesthetically pleasing, the appearance
And texture are very inviting to the user.
I love how you have challenged the conventional form of mortar and pestles.
However, your design may be improved by making the mid section deeper.

  6. the design of the mortar and pestle is harmonious with the action of grinding and pounding that is associated with this product, i really like the how the shape of the pestle is made to fit into the users hand, however the curves of the pestle could be translated onto the mortar more, perhaps with a more curved base and slow transitions in the curve of the lip of the mortar.
