Monochromatic Paintings

When i first looked at these painting i got shivers from how haunting the doll-like girls were.Thinking it was a 3D animation type of thing but the artist Takamatsu has increased the realism by actually layering customised printed tarp onto a panel where the artist finishes it off with acylic.

"The girls in these paintings have a haunting beauty that seamlessly blends youthful innocence with eerie suggestions of death. In his work, Japanese artist Kazuki Takamatsu makes artwork that explores the emotional aspects of Japanese society. He says, "My art deals with a fictional form of death…a metaphor for people losing their soul and place in society."
To create each piece, Takamatsu goes through an extensive creative process. He first develops a rough sketch with pencil or pen. Once his idea is formed, the artist creates a digital file with multiple cross sections, adding gradations of light and dark, and then printing on a customized tarp. The tarp is then glued onto a panel where Takamatsu touches the piece up with acrylic paints to emphasize the lines and textures, and then finishes the piece off with a matte medium and an overlay of jet-black acrylic gouache." sourced from http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/kazuki-takamatsu-show-corey-helford-gallery

MBFWA

As designer we must look at the currents trends from all areas including architecture, arts and fashion. As everyone all knows the Mecedez Benz fashion week was in 2 weeks ago featuring big Australian names such as Lisa Ho, Alex Perry, Camila and Marc.
Camilla
Innovator: Vinh Nguyen
"The Vinh Nguyen brand creates truly modern and innovative women’s and men’s wear. The label’s attention to detail and use of digital prints is complimented by impeccable tailoring and high-quality fabrics. Drawing up on movies, architecture and graphic design as references, Vinh Nguyen demonstrates a great understanding in the translation of classic visuals to strong modern designs. The result is highly conceptual and intelligent tailored pieces with a strong statement in colour and prints"

I was definately loving the charlie chaplin inspired fashion of Vinh Nguyen, his show featured bowler hats and black suit/casual attire contrasted with a vibrant blue or orange.

CAMILLA is one of Australia’s most loved fashion & lifestyle brands recognised globally for vibrant colour, exclusive prints, eclectic designs & quality craftsmanship. All pieces are luxurious, fashion forward & true investment pieces, designed to be worn for seasons to come.
While her style references tribal, India and bohemian feel there is the sense of modern through the intense colours of neon pink, cool greens which are eye capturing. Whats alluring about her designs is how there is a sort of magical, spiritual vibe around her clothing pieces. Her fashion line includes vibrant, rich colours and dancing flowing, delicate frabics.  I would imagine having one of her pieces and then never wanting to dispose of it because of the amount of spiritual attachment you'd have with it.

2013 Australian International Design award entries

I'm back after a dry period with an insight into some of the interesting entries in this years Australian International Design Awards.
The first one which caught my attention was the Phillips air fryer.'The Philips Air Fryer uses rapid air technology to deliver meals quickly and with little or no use of oil.' Its design definately stands out amongst other air fryers on the market for its visual language which speaks more sanitary, medical and mother rather than 'kitchen appliance'. This was likely in the intent to persuade consumers of its health benefits of using air frying.  It innovation is in the phillips patented rapid air technology which enables consumers to have fries with 80% less fat.
The Blackmagic Cinema camera is said to be the game changer in global video industry, putting high-end filmaking within the reach of the mass market with a price of less than $3,000. It was designed in Australia and its revolutionary compact design introduces a completely new factor to the camera industry.
"Revolutionary new engineering approaches to both optics calibration and thermal management have driven significant cost savings and reliability over existing camera designs. Through innovative and careful consideration of manufacturing processes and engineering, part count has been kept to a minimum. Many parts perform multiple functions, enabling a relatively low build cost, yet ensuring very high quality and reliability cinematographers expect."
With the amazing challenges overcome by the Blackmagic design team I believe this could be winner in the consumer electronic category.

With 2012 seemingly like bikes were all the rage with 2 bicycle entries, Chapelli bike winning the transport category, this year the bike absence is replaced by water jets, outlanders and roadsters. The 2013 Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 watercraft is a beautifully designed by Canada's BRP who worked in collaboration with world champion racers. You can really feel the performance and visual impact the designers wanted to create. With fluro lime contrasted with a polished black connoting 'performace', 'velocity' and high energy'. While the form is a mixture of curved and sharp angular faces, seemlessly creating a sense of movement.
"The design theme is drawn from the overall character of a shark and is reflected by the forceful "flowing facet" design language that is true to Sea-Doo DNA".
The innovation features of this high performance water-craft are the Ergolock System” with “knee-pockets” that helps the rider “lock-in” using optimal leg strength that reduces efforts on arms and shoulders.
