Burwood library is the gathering place for the local
community, centralised by schools, shops, café and train station, it is a
mutual ground for children, students, readers, elderly and library goers. By
revitalizing the neglected garden space with multipurpose street furniture, the
goal of the design is provide furniture that facilitates eating, casual study
or group study, relaxing and reading. While inside the library eating and
talking are discouraged, the outside area provides a place for eating and group
discussion. For those that want to enjoy the fresh air and
sun, lounging, napping and relaxing can also be done. Multilevel seating
heights allow children and adults to sit comfortably and allow users to
determine how they want to sit. The sitting is modular and can different
configurations, that can facilitate different needs.
Made from composite wood, which is resistant o sun and water
so it maintains its colour for years and year. There is no need to paint, stain
or seal because its resist old, mildew and warping, uneven or insect damage. The
offcuts from the bench is used a planter and used as a table top.
